It appears to be deleted but refreshing the view makes it reappear. The contents get moved but the source folder, now empty, remains in the pool. Tried to move the folder out of the pool. "The action can't be completed because the folder or file is open in another program".

Renamed the folder successfully.Ĭopied the folder into the pool (duplication on), also on the server I just did an experiment (from win7 client attached to WHS2011)Ī folder containing an avi file on an unpooled drive on the server. Looking at process explorer shows db holding an open file handle to the folder plus lots of open file handles to duplicates of the now moved folder contents which it doesn't seem to release until the server has been rebooted. While eagerly awaiting sage advice, I'll keep thinking and trying stuff, so again, thanks everyone. You need permission to perform this action: You need permission from Administrators to make changes to this folder. The reason being: I have done the same thing before the Homegroup creation with no problems. The more I think about it, the more I think it has something to do with homegroups and permissions applied when created. Thanks for the tip, but regrettably it still gives me the same dialog box. Here is an article that explains how to do so: You might try disabling it to see if you can copy your files. I have spent so much time with this (all for copying 26 Mb to a new folder!) and would really like to move on with my life. I hope this post makes enough sense to all of you pros. One possibility that I wouldn't know how to check is the fact that I created a Homegroup (which I have now dissolved) and I wonder whether Windows just sets up certain permissions automatically, then did not change them back once the Homegroup was deleted. I went as far as to change the permissions for all groups that I am associated with to Full Control, allowed and denied access to the Everyone group all to no avail.

So after digging into the sharing and security tabs in the folder properties, I am still no closer to an answer. I am logged in as administrator, and am the only one with a user account on my machine (except guest, which is off).Įach time I try to copy this executable, UAC tells me I need admin privileges, which I have, and after clicking continue, a dialog box opens up telling me that I need permission from Everyone to perform this action.

I am running Windows 7 RC and I want to copy an app to a folder in Program Files. Please try to not tear this poor soul to shreds.
